 | Watanabe Belts Bunch of Base Hits Wednesday, August 31st, 1994: It seemed that Cleveland shortstop Hideki Watanabe could do no wrong as the Naps kayoed the Rattlers 19-3 today as he rapped out 5 hits in 5 at-bats. Maricopa pitchers couldn't get him out as Watanabe seemed to know which pitches they were throwing.
"I think the Naps were stealing signs," growled one unhappy Maricopa fan.
"I just felt good today. I saw the ball well and just wanted to make good contact and put the ball in play," said the jubilant Watanabe in the postgame press interview.
H. Watanabe singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 7th, walked in a run in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.
This season Watanabe has hit at a .291 clip with 51 RBIs, 3 home runs and 50 runs scored. | |
