Monday, September 13th, 2055: Big Bat Pays Off, Serrano Player of the Week
Today the Republic League announced the Player of the Week Award. This week's honoree is Hammersmith's talented first baseman Juan Serrano. When he steps into the batter's box, it's usually a bad omen for pitchers.

For the week Serrano batted .478 (11-23) with 3 home runs and 10 RBIs.

In 136 games Serrano is hitting .323 this season for the Hooligans with 169 hits, 19 home runs, 114 RBIs, 43 walks, .383 OBP and has scored 83 runs.

Sunday, September 12th, 2055: Big Day with Bat: Cantú 5-6
"It was like I was hitting little league pitching," said Félix Cantú after his 5-hit performance against the Hooligans. "No offense meant to Hammersmith, but it was like I was back in little league again. I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid league park, it was Rebels Ballpark."

The Chico left fielder had a fantastic day at the plate, knocking out 5 hits in 6 at-bats and pacing his club to a 15-1 victory.

His manager elaborated after the game to the press, saying, "Félix worked the entire offseason on trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball and the hard work is paying off in base hits."

"That's what I'm trying to do," Cantú said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."

F. Cantú singled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off J. Long in the 3rd, grounded out in the 4th, singled in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off T. Pineda in the 7th, hit a two-run home run off S. Cuevas in the 8th and walked in the 9th.

This year Cantú has hit 31 home runs and posted a .308 batting average.

Sunday, September 12th, 2055: Going Once! Twice! Gone Again! 3 HR for Cantú
If you were sitting in the bleachers and brought your glove to the Rebels-Hooligans game, there was a good chance you'd catch one of the three home runs hit by Félix Cantú. The Rebels left fielder repeatedly sent eager fans scurrying to catch a souvenir and led Chico to a 15-1 win over Hammersmith.

"Hey, the three homers were great, but I'm just trying to help my ballclub... not thinkin' about home runs. I'm just thinkin' about winning ballgames. When you think about home runs, you very seldom get 'em," he philosophized in the postgame press conference.

Cantú was 5-6 on the day with 5 runs batted in.
